Your 14 day Vietnam Photography Tour commences with an early morning departure from Hanoi, setting off on a scenic drive through the Northern Vietnamese countryside towards Cao Bang province. The photographic centerpiece of the day is the awe-inspiring Ban Gioc Waterfall, renowned as one of Southeast Asia most spectacular natural wonders, straddling the border between Vietnam and China.
We rise early to capture Ban Gioc Waterfall bathed in the magical light of sunrise, aiming to photograph the soft illumination filtering through the morning mist and highlighting the cascading waters. Later, we explore a stunning nearby hilltop offering panoramic vistas of the expansive countryside – an ideal location for practicing wide-angle landscape photography.
After capturing the serene sunrise painting the Phong Nam valley with golden light, our journey continues towards the world-renowned Ha Long Bay. Upon arrival, we embark on a comfortable cruise vessel, navigating through the thousands of towering limestone karsts that dramatically emerge from the bay's emerald waters.
Begin the day with an early morning photography session, aiming to capture the ethereal beauty of sunrise over the mystical landscape of Ha Long Bay from our cruise. Following breakfast onboard, our journey continues overland towards Hung Yen province. This region offers a rich cultural tapestry, and our focus will be on documenting the vibrant local life and traditional crafts.
Today exploration delves into the rich cultural heritage found in the vicinity of Hanoi. Our photographic lens will focus on documenting the traditional processes and atmospheric details of local crafts, perhaps visiting workshops where artisans practice age-old techniques, aiming to capture the textures, tools, and enduring spirit of these traditions.
Our day commences amidst the stunning natural splendour of Tam Coc in Ninh Binh province, often referred to as 'Ha Long Bay on Land'. This UNESCO World Heritage site features dramatic limestone karsts rising majestically from serene waterways and rice paddies, creating a surreal and highly picturesque landscape. Our photography aims to encapsulate the poetic beauty and tranquility of Vietnam rural countryside, utilizing boat trips for unique perspectives.
Following our exploration of Ninh Binh, we travel back to Hanoi Noi Bai Airport (HAN) to board an afternoon flight bound for the historical imperial capital, Hue, located in Central Vietnam.
Today is dedicated to immersing ourselves in the historical grandeur of Hue Imperial City, a vast complex and UNESCO World Heritage site reflecting Vietnam feudal past. To enhance our photographic narrative, Vietnamese models adorned in elegant, traditional Ao Dai will pose gracefully against the backdrop of ancient citadel walls, ornate gates, and majestic palaces, bringing history to life. Our lenses will focus on capturing compelling environmental portraits and scenes that convey the narratives of tradition, elegance, and imperial legacy within this significant cultural landmark.
Our photographic day begins before dawn with a sunrise session overlooking the tranquil waters of a Hue lagoon (likely Tam Giang or Lap An Lagoon), aiming to capture the serene beauty and soft morning light reflecting on the surface. Following this, we visit the nearby Thanh Tien village, renowned for its generations-old tradition of crafting vibrant paper flowers. Here, we will photograph the delicate artistry and colourful creations, focusing on the artisans and their intricate work process for insightful cultural photography.
The day starts with an exceptional pre-dawn photography opportunity at the iconic Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hills. We aim to capture this architectural marvel, seemingly held aloft by giant stone hands, as the sun rises, potentially amidst mist-filled valleys, creating an ethereal and unforgettable scene – a true highlight for landscape and architectural photography enthusiasts.
This morning in Hoi An offers a focus on intimate portrait photography. We seek opportunities to respectfully capture the character, wisdom, and life stories reflected in the faces of senior local residents. As the morning light develops, we shift our attention to documenting another vital aspect of coastal life: the intricate process of sewing and repairing fishing nets, highlighting the manual skill and generational knowledge involved. Following these sessions, we bid farewell to captivating Hoi An and begin our southward journey along the coast towards Phu Yen province, anticipating new photographic discoveries.
In the coastal province of Phu Yen, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant rhythm of local fishing life. We'll photograph fishermen engaged in their demanding daily routines out on the waves, and if fortunate, witness the dynamic spectacle of large net casting operations near the shore. Our journey then leads us to a village specializing in the traditional craft of building coracle boats ('thung chai'), providing a fascinating opportunity to photograph the skilled artisans meticulously shaping these unique, iconic round vessels – a vital part of Vietnam coastal heritage.
We begin the day at sunrise amidst the stunning Nam Cuong sand dunes in Ninh Thuan, known for their unique reddish hues. Our aim is to capture the serene beauty of the early morning light sculpting the dunes, potentially framing the elegant silhouette of a local Cham woman in traditional attire walking across the shifting sands, creating powerful cultural landscape images.
Following sunrise, we move into a nearby Cham village, one of the oldest pottery villages in Southeast Asia (Bau Truc). Here, we will respectfully document the traditional pottery-making process, capturing the artisans skilled hands shaping clay using age-old techniques, offering insights into this vital aspect of Cham cultural heritage.
Our day photographic journey starts with capturing the sunrise light painting the vast sand dunes of Mui Ne in Binh Thuan province, exploring different compositions and textures offered by this desert-like landscape. Following this evocative session, we delve into another local industry by visiting a nearby factory engaged in the traditional production of fish sauce ('nuoc mam'). We will document the process, from the large fermentation vats to bottling, offering insights into this cornerstone of Vietnamese cuisine.
On the final morning of your extensive 14 day Vietnam Photography Tour, we venture into the lush Mekong Delta region, specifically visiting a picturesque waterlily village or farm in Long An province. This location offers wonderful opportunities to photograph vibrant pink or white waterlilies floating on ponds and canals, potentially capturing scenes of locals harvesting them by boat. Subsequently, we aim to document other aspects of Mekong Delta agricultural life, perhaps photographing workers collecting bang grass (used for weaving) or other local produce, providing a final glimpse into the region hardworking spirit.
